Rusin Consulting Corporation is a high technology mechanical engineering consulting firm specializing in the use of finite element methods (FEA) in performing design and failure analyses of mechanical components in a wide range of industries including the rail transportation, aerospace, automotive, nuclear, construction engineering, utilities and medical products. RCC was incorporated in 1984 in the state of New Jersey. The company’s mission has been to use/develop state of the art software and computers in order to achieve lower cost products, optimum designs, industrial and governmental code acceptance and analytic-experimental validations in order to confirm the FEA analysis. RCC provides engineering services particularly involved with the computerized finite element method. RCC is thoroughly experienced in various facets of analytical and numerical techniques for solving design engineering challenges. We are equipped with a state-of-the-art general purpose finite element package (COSMOS/M, ANSYS, ABAQUS and MSC/NASTRAN), advanced thermal analysis program MSC/SINDA and powerful CAD modelers to offer innovative solutions for the development of new products and the enhancement of existing ones. Our consulting team consists of experienced professionals well recognized in their respective fields. In the specific area of railroad wheel design and analysis RCC enjoys worldwide recognition. In 1978 the firm’s founder presented the A.S.M.E. paper "Application of the Finite Element Method in the Development of Improved Railroad Car Wheel Designs". Then in 1994 the firm won the prestige contract with Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road to establish their railroad’s standard 32” car wheel design. The above two railroads carry approximately 75% of all daily passenger train riders in the US. The project included the analytic development and correlation of the manufacturing residual stresses by use of finite element elastic-plastic-creep methods. The wheel design program, for the first time, used the above manufacturing residual stresses to improve the design and service performance of the wheel. Correlation to dynamometer testing in the non-linear range was also included and achieved in the above contract. More recently the firm designed the locomotive and passenger car wheels for the American Flyer high-speed train now used in the northeast corridor of the US. The work was done for GEC Alstom of France. Currently Rusin Consulting is working on the design for the new M-7 car fleet of Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road. Rusin Consulting Corporation is certified by the Association of American Railroads, AAR, to perform the AAR Standard S-660 for standard freight wheels and AAR Standard S-669 for locomotive wheels. Rusin Consulting leads the field in railroad wheel design, analysis and failure analysis in the world. In addition the firm assists companies world wide in the process of becoming AAR Quality Assurance Program Certified. Many companies world wide have received their AAR quality assurance certification with the assistance of Rusin Consulting Corporation.
